Out and About: Smithsonian Folklife Festival

If any lovely people are going to be in the DC area over the next ~week and a half, I highly recommend you take a trip down to the Folklife Festival on the mall.  I stopped by yesterday and it was a great time (the beautiful weather certainly helped!).  They have exhibits, demonstration (including some food-related!  I learned about cheese-making in Columbia), and performances.  Sadly, you can't taste the food at the demonstrations, but there is food for sale.  They have barbecue, Columbian, West African, and Southeast Asian food tents.  The food tents don't have anything too exotic, but they might give you some ideas for future dining options.  We got food at the West African tent, which was provided by Aunty Libe Restaurant, and I would definitely consider going to the actual restaurant in the future!

More information about the Folklife Festival can be found here: http://www.festival.si.edu/

I hope you are having a great 4th of July weekend!
