On the Table: Earthquake Smoothie!

I wanted to make something in honor of yesterday's earthquake, but I wasn't quite sure how an earthquake would be represented culinarily.  I thought about making something in the blender, but that seemed tornado-ish (or maybe an early tribute to Hurricane Irene?).  Then I thought about incorporating some sauteeing - lots of pan shaking!  I decided to go with a smoothie with sauteed banana and peaches.  Quickly cooking the fruit before adding it to the blender helps to consolidate the flavors.  It took a little more effort than just dumping ingredients into a blender, but it was worth it!  To prepare:

Peel and dice up one large banana and one peach.

Put a saute pan over medium heat and thinly coat the bottom of the pan with canola oil.  When the oil gets hot, add in the peaches.

Cook for a few minutes (shake the pan a lot! or stir), until the peaches get tender.  Add in the bananas.  I also sprinkled some salt over the fruit, though that is optional.

Cook until the bananas are tender.

Combine the fruit in a blender with 2/3 of a cup of plain nonfat yogurt (vanilla yogurt would also be good) and blend until smooth.

Enjoy!
